Welcome!

Thanks for purchasing Handheld Designer. I hope you'll find that Handheld Designer makes it easy to create and share beautiful HTML5 mobile web applications for the iPhone®, iPad® and iPod® touch.

You can return to this page at any time by choosing Help ▸ Welcome To Handheld Designer from the menu.

Getting Started

To the right is a list of samples and tutorials to help get you started using Handheld Designer. After creating new project using one of the samples, you can view its source code to see how it works and make your own changes to the app. Or, view a tutorial and follow along with your own copy of the project. And you can always start a new blank project at any time using the File ▸ New Project menu.

Learning JavaScript

When using Handheld Designer, you define the functionality of your application using JavaScript. If you're new to programming (or unfamiliar with JavaScript), here are some resources you might find helpful:

Please keep in mind that these guides and tutorials will often explain JavaScript in the context of traditional web development. While the full power of those techniques are available for you to use in Handheld Designer if and when you want, most of the hassle of dealing with HTML, CSS, and the DOM are handled for you by Handheld Designer.

One-Click Hosting

You can share your apps with the world with a single click using Handheld Designer's integrated web hosting service. To create your free account, open the application preferences from the Handheld Designer ▸ Preferences menu.

If you already have a web hosting service and you're comfortable uploading sites to it, you can use it to host the applications you create with Handheld Designer. Simply choose Project ▸ Export as Web Application menu to export a standard HTML5 web application.
